6-8 Eval
Paul did a great job--especially 2nd service, a lot looser.
1st Service awkward segue between the idol logo to Paul.
"Always Be My Baby" Brian had more energy 2nd service, which was great. Sounded great first service, but didn't "Sell" it with his communication.
Staff idol video--Okay...don't know how funny it was. Probably a video that was in the middle of production. If we could have taken that and had two more weeks to tweak it, would have made it a lot better. Wasn't seen in time to make any changes. Good that we had two camera angels, etc.. music at the end was great--wish we had more sound effects and over the top stuff through out. Probably needed to be faster paced and shorter, some of the set up stuff was confusing, so I don't know how well they followed the story line...ie: candy--why was she dressed as a bag lady? Wish there had been the kung fu over dub between Trevor and Rachel--or a dart/sound effect...
Wonderfully Made--worked well, actors didn't seem as natural as usual...
Song started kind of abruptly--a softer drum click in would have worked better--the song started kind of abruptly out of the drama.
Music sounded great, and David did a great job leading, with Jason's help.

6-1 Eval
Great job--everyone really worked hard on this--very effective. David was especially on his game in communication and really hammed it up. Overall, everything was often.
Instrumentally--very tight--things held together well.
Vocalists--great job, lots of hard work. Girls, good job learning all of those parts, and figuring out how to coordinate everything.
To improve: Maybe give girls more specifics so that they feel more choreographed. There were times where it didn't seem as high energy as it could have been. Perhaps because we asked them to be careful about dance moves, seemed like they backed off the energy a bit. Dawn, smile more!:) But, a lot to pull off and they did great for all of the harmonies, props, dance moves, etc!
Lot of programming up front and maybe too long before Roy spoke. Need to remember on medley days that we can cut back the programming a bit.
Song with drama was great--good changes to make it more of a fit with the dancing/Jamaica thing.
Media: not sure if the ramsey-isms. wouldn't have repeated the clips from both media pieces.
butt shot??? not sure about that...
Surrender--great job everyone--the full vocal team on stage was really cool!

5-11 Eval
The song: "Smash" probably didn't work that well--probably would have worked if we had smashed the vegetables live and stuff...song might have been a little poppy for the footage. maybe a bit of a disconnect and probably didn't move the story along.
Video of Roy--what's on the inside comes out...video had a good artsy feel.
Staind song out of drama--Eric did a great job. Great song for him.
Roy did well with segue out of it--did flare with drama characters. Good improv with the flares.:) Nice to have a visual aid. Had a lot of comments about the effect of that and the service in general.
One thing to note: we did have 2 metaphors. "What's on the inside comes out" and the flare. They were connected, but wonder if that was confusing to have 2 different metaphors.
Roy wove in both "Outside" and "Honesty" with message really well.
Sara did a great job with communication on ending song. Great for her voice.
Felt like overall it was effective. The mood was totally different than the high energy of last Sunday and it's nice to feel like we can sell both moods, etc.
Having Jamie in the audience was really great--to be able to coach and listen to house sound.
Di--we probably should have had her rehearse earlier with mic, monitor, etc ...had echo on her voice/computer system was causing an echo...Di did a good job warming up the audience/mother's day, etc. Standing ovation for her performance! Even when the words were forgotten, audience was into it and loved that you were spitting out all those words!

4-6 reign over me EVAL
center screen is more distorted than others, but if we fit the center screen, it will throw off the side screens...
trailer--since it was from youtube, looked significantly better on side screens because of youtube quality and center projector not being HD. Had to have it on center screen for trailer because the music video was right before.
We think that it worked for side screens for the clips, but haven't heard anything.
We are assuming side screens wouldn't work when band is playing, but others think it's easier when just the sides are up and not on the stage. We might try putting a music video on side screens only and see what we think.
Still down to the wire making video decisions. Like, it just takes a while to format things, etc.
Drama/message/clips--worried about it being redundant, but think it flowed pretty well and connected with what Roy was saying.
Scott and Sam were very real, and I thought the timing and heart of the drama was great.
Band instrumentation--probably the best we've done. Great to have Steve. Cool thing--after one rehearsal Steve commented on how great rehearsing with the band was---that it wasn't about anyones egos but about something greater. Kudos to the band for portraying that heart and attitude, no matter how difficult rehearsal is. I thought it was cool that he picked up on that.

all these crazy screens...
Can we leave some screens blank? do they all have to be on?
Candy: When the band is playing--we want center screen, so you don't have to turn.
Trevor: If you're going to watch the media, you don't care about watching the band.
Candy: But a back up piece is just supposed to be in the background, not a focal point.
questions to ponder:
do more people watch the media than the band?
would it be okay to have media on the side screens and not center?
is 3 screens overkill all the time?
for next week:
can we show video clips just on side screens?
does there always have to be stuff on the side screens?
why are the lips out of sync?
delay on the projector
possibly affected by the way we're using keynote--not designed to play that much video
possibly avi is a problem.
we need to work media out beforehand--it's too complicated to wait until Sunday to format everything.
goal: what if saturdays were freed up to do the project for the following week?

3/16
video montage: nicely done by josh b: loved the music choice (whoo! ramones!) loved how he mixed some of the audio in from the clips- nicely paced. would have been nice to keep the song going (or restart it, in this case) and let the sound guys fade it down for transition purposes.
i like mixing it up and having someone do the welcome who's not speaking. i can't put my finger on why, but i like it.
Belief- John Mayer: good song, sounded great.
Changing Minds drama: i (john c) confess a bias, but i thought kathleen did very well on this one. sam was a great choice- he played it right on. it seemed like second service, there were some awkward searching for lines pauses, on both of their parts, but very slight, not enough to take away from it.
Help me believe- nicole nordeman: Cool having the singer be in the drama area- christina has tremendous stage presence. she did great with this song.
Message/video: i liked fred sciff (sp?); i thought he made some really cool points. the "y'knows" were really distracting to me though- but kathleen (for instance) didn't notice it all. i liked the sunset pictures- some more stills to break it up would have been cool. nicely edited by trevor in a very limited amount of time- probably could have been a little shorter.
creation calls song/media backup: great song, well sung (as usual) by david. i thought the timing of the piece (and the work the band did to maintain the timing) was a real home run for us- as always with a youtube download, there is some quality issues (slightly fuzzy) but i thought this one looked pretty good, considering it came from youtube. not enough to take away from the emotional impact. again, to reference kathleen: she didn't notice anything different quality wise with the piece.

3-9 Eval
*we turned this down after the first service--Good call by the sound guys. The mix was great, but somehow I didn't catch how loud it was during run through--it didn't seem loud to me, but it definitely was, so good job fixing this. Eric struggled a little with words both services--losing your place on the page maybe?
Media: Good Book
This seemed to work--I'm glad the music continued as it faded out. Maybe some more examples of what the Bible says--like stuff from the drama would have added to this...
Drama:
Got some good laughs both service--Kevin and Di did a great job.
Media: A Year of Living Biblically
There seemed to be a few rough transitions in the media...and the ending was a bit awkward.
Ending Song: Word of God Speak
Eric had a few pitch problems..working on taking some of the country out.:)

3-2-08 eval
continuing with the media vibe: loved the shots of roy's message- great look, good audio. very, very seamless flow of message and movie shots; audio transitions from clips to roy and back were particularly good. loved the saved! intro. there were 3 things i would have done different with media overall: 1. probably trim the simpsons montage by about 30 seconds or so. the last few clips and the first few got a good response, but the middle ones were a little hit and miss. 2. i thought the saved backup got to a good spot, but the first clips were too short and it was off pace wise. as the backup kept going, the clips were longer, and the pace was matching the song better; that would have been better from the get go. 3. the bloopers were fantastic- the audio levels on the background music were a little too high.
liked the drama a lot; pace was problematic at times, but very good overall.
great music day, as is usually the case. fantastic ending song.
all the transitions seemed smooth- i was very pleased with the end result, overall.

Eval of 2-10 Consumed
band intro: party (instrumental)
oops, I last minuted Ross on this one. this is a great, quick intro to throw together, but once again, we continue to need to plan ahead on intros!
welcome--roy
pp words--"consumed"
it was an okay transition--something was needed to set up cave man, so this worked
rich girl--gwen stefani
sara did great. splitting it up made it more interesting.
audience seemed to have fun in the up front run.
cavemen
funny. people always comment about loving this drama. chris did a great job in his caveman debut. 2nd service the drama was shorter/probably rushed the timing a bit.
pp words
ka-ching
christina's communication is awesome. song was a great fit with the run. high tones with
violin, strings, and christina's voice all combined to be a little piercing in the house at first. i
think this got adjusted.
video w/ stats and cartoon:
well done--very effective and got a great audience reaction. extremely well done. this could
have been a piece within the message. well edited, and well done. this could have been a more
key element of the service.
message--sean
i repent with video back up
song was a struggle for eric. although it improved a great deal, it still had quite a few pitch
problems. timed well with the video. song is a great ending--worked really well. could have
used a little explanation in the message about repentance, but the lyrics of the song still
carried it.
overall service/message stuff: be more inductive instead of deductive. Instead of stating
with programming and message that we are consumers...work from the premise that we have
to prove that. why do we shop when we lose our jobs? then get to the heart of why...
segues were great. the whole day flowed really well.
we need to start screen faster, and not worry about whether or not it is up when nothing is on
it. otherwise we are watching it come down...there is some discrepancy about this. :) but we
don't want people focusing on the screen up and down. need to plan the screen down
transition better so we aren't waiting for it.
sound stuff: front 5 rows--hearing a lot of monitor, especially vocals. probably needed more
bass in the overall mix.

Intro—Hard Day's Night--Beatles
Office Clips—“priceless” dialogue in clip?
Maybe didn’t need the extra words?
Welcome—anticipate more so there's no pause until the light comes up for the welcome.
Office Stomp—different people… awesome to have that on stage
Little long, maybe. Next time add a little bit more complexity. Good story, the
audience got it, I think and really enjoyed it. Great job, Colin, organizing all this!
Projector: not straight --we'll need to fix this. It was level, but tilted.
Montage: cross dissolves with dialogue…a little confusing--would a straight cut or softer transition worked? Good content
Good segues: drum beat and words were great
Drum beat—band—hard to start song out of it. Probably in the future, need to get rid of rhythm/music like that before band starts to help with musical transition.
Song: American Dream
meaningfulchurch mix and house mix were both really good--nice job!
should put lyrics up more often—creatively done. The black on white lyrics I did weren't great--but helped with clarity. i would love someone to do this more often and do it really creatively--helps get the message across.
Mix was better second service when David backed off mic
Message: Sean is getting better and better. thought he did a really nice job. Good angle: Worth from work. Good stories. We couldn’t remember the 3 points…but we did remember the stories.
Drama: priceless/Song package: worked out well
Loydena handled a bigger part well--good emotion
Song: This is your life--I thought this was very powerful--loved the way you guys did this.
I felt like there was too much reverb on David's voice in the house both services.
The ending where Richard and David really go for it--was awesome. I loved the vocals David added.
Dismiss: Sean recapped nicely, but the "have a good day" today, seemed a bit abrupt...he was recapping the takeaways from the message and giving a compelling challenge, so it just seemed like a pretty quick switch to a dismissal.
On internet: Last song: camera positions made it difficult to distinguish between instrumental and vocal—shooting through David to get to Richard. At least that was the comment from watching the feed backstage or online. Fixed this second service.
Overall, I felt like the meaningful church mix on this service is one of the best I'd heard so far.

Sunday 1-13 Eval
Here is the run for last week. I know we are already in this Sunday mode. Sorry about that.
Rachel said she and/or John could get into this and post the cue sheet from Sunday earlier in the week - that would be great. Just tell me what to do - I'm still very unsure about all this stuff.
Also if you guys can think of a better/different format for this eval please let me know.
One thing to consider from last week. The changes we made after first service made second service much better in my opinion. Question: How can we make these changes before Sunday morning???
