i (john c) thought we could just use this plan as a springboard for 2/3 comments: my comments come from the perspective of watching both services online, mind you.
loved the band intro; lots of fun to start things off with.
i thought stratton's need for speed video was excellent; i heard there was a hitch with it first service; not a horrible one, but a little glitch. first service, on the web, the video wasn't run through the tricaster- was that because it was in the wrong format?
love that lenny kravitz song- eric's voice sounded good; i would have liked to have seen more movement/rock attitude with his performance. probably not as big of a deal, though, if seen with the video in the background.
great drama- my favorite part of the run.
good fit for eric on the 3 doors down song.
this opening run, from welcome to video to song to drama back to song- felt a little abrupt to me first service, but not second service at all. i can't put my finger on the difference, but that's the way it felt to me.
great message- it hit home for me- and a powerful end run from message to drama to song.
overall- i came into this as the target audience, i think- various miscommunications among the media team left me feeling very, very hurried and stressed sunday morning- all the more so because i wasn't there to help, and was trying to do what i could over the phone while also being at work. so when we got to the drama, i really had no problem whatsoever identifying with martha's busyness! the aspect that really hit home for me was the Earner element; the attempt to impress Jesus with appetizers. i think that's where my heart was Sunday morning; so wrapped up in myself and my attempts to gain approval, i was missing the most important piece. i'd be curious to hear the perspectives of other folks affected by the sunday morning "chaos". . .
Good thoughts John. I need to watch it on meaningful church to eval better, but I felt like overall everything was pretty strong.
Strat's video was awesome. We had him make a couple of changes, due to the confusion on the purpose of the project. He put some very cool words in, but it didn't fit with the song as well.
On another note, seems like we struggle to communicate the vision for projects as clearly as we could. But overall, he did an incredible job, and it was very cool fit. The clap on the video was the cue for the drums to start, and that seemed to work really well. Great transition.
Eric did an amazing job. I agree with your comments about energy and communication--considering he wasn't originally supposed to sing either song (David lost his voice Saturday), I was fine with the communication! Vocally--incredible job, and for as little time as he had...not bad.
I thought the Mary/Martha piece hit home really well--heard a lot of sniffles as I was singing the ending song, right after the drama. Could tell it had been impactful...
Wierd being on stage for this one and not at my usual vantage point. It is certainly a privilage to be able to pick and choose the drama's I want to be in. I get to pick ones that hit me right between the eyes - Oh, Martha that I am. Thanks to Lesa for helping my internal and external world not stress over the run and my typical Sunday AM responsibilities. I felt very free to add thought when I wanted to but didn't have to.
At one point Scott asked me what was wrong with me - I looked nervous or stressed or something. It was cool to say that I was trying to get into character. The fact is I had assumed that the stress of trying to produce and act would cause me to be more Martha esque for the drama but in truth I had to manufacture the stress to get into the part - however not being able to find the media piece did help me get into character a bit.
To John's comment about the abruptness of first as opposed to second service was probably a result of us starting the drama earlier - not waiting for the screen to get all the way up. It felt better to me onstage.
I think we ended really well. The second scene of the drama started funny and then turned heartfelt combined with the kickin job you did on the last song Rach made the finish a high 9 I think. I saw many people sitting during the reprise just to hear you sing the song again.
As we celebrated backstage your team did a great job flexing Rachel - that is a tribute to you as a leader and their hearts that are willing to do whatever it takes.
Thanks for taking my frantic calls on Sunday John- "we're learning...we're stretching...feedback is good" to quote Martha...
